THE IMPORTANCE OF THE APPOINTMENT OF THE FIRST UN SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND CLIMATE CHANGE
Ian Fry, an international expert on environmental law and policy, is the first Special Rapporteur on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in the Context of Climate Change at the United Nations. He was appointed by the Human Rights Council at its 49th session in March 2022 and began his term on May 1, 2022.

The importance of the voices of the young and very young in the fight against climate inaction is stirring the consciences of many. However, there is no doubt that these voices are not always taken into account at the highest levels of decision-making processes. At the ECOSOC Youth Forum, the aim was precisely to counteract this trend and open forums for dialogue to provide space for the sharing of ideas from young minds, but more importantly, to talk about youth inclusion in governmental decision-making processes and strategies through which their involvement can take place.
