THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN THE CONTEXT OF FOOD SYSTEMS
The concept of the circular economy (CE) represents a development model that aims to mitigate the negative impacts of human actions through the implementation of the basic principles of the '3Rs': reduce, reuse and recycle, with the goal of constantly maintaining the highest degree of utility and value for products, components and materials. The basic principle, therefore, of the circular economy is the creation of economic value for those products that until now have been regarded as industry waste.
TICKET TO THE FUTURE, WHAT WAS IT? THE PROTAGONISTS’ TALE
With the SPARK consortium (the group of 20 European NGOs with whom we have been working for over three years now), a few months ago we met for the annual coordination meeting in Bologna, and it was on that occasion that the idea of bringing together young climate activists from all over Europe and beyond, also involving many young people from the countries of the Global South, was born.
That's when the Ticket To The Future activity was born, which has just ended, in which 140 people including staff from organisations and young people travelled by train to Barcelona, where the Fixing To The Future Festival was held.
SDG SUMMIT 2023, G77 AND THE ADVANCING NEW WORLD
The outcomes of the SDGs Summit are not encouraging. There is a need to ensure climate justice. Countries in the Global South are calling for more democratization of decision-making processes.
THE INTERCONNECTION BETWEEN FOOD, ENERGY, AND WATER: A SYSTEMIC VIEW
Food, energy, and water are essential resources for human life on Earth and are highly interconnected. For instance, agriculture, with its significant global impact, accounts for about 70% of total freshwater withdrawals. This sector is the largest user of water resources worldwide, demonstrating how water is a crucial component of the food chain, involving agricultural production, forestry, and fishing.
CLIMATE AMBITION SUMMIT: FROM AN AMBITION SUMMIT TO A SUMMIT OF HOPE
Little ambition at the Climate Ambition Summit, except for Secretary General Guterres, developing countries and very few developed countries. Excluded from the event were the U.S., China and India, further evidence of the G20's lack of leadership. The message that emerges is that it is still possible to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, but the big issue remains the shift away from fossil fuels, which is still opposed by several countries.
