72 ore per decidere il futuro dei vostri figli, dei figli dei vostri figli

 Brittany Trilforld, una studentessa diciassettenne di Wellington (Nuova Zelanda), ha indirizzato gli Stati Generali riuniti a Rio de Janeiro per l’apertura del Summit Rio+20, definito dal Segretario Generale delle Nazioni Unite Ban Ki Moon come “una delle più importanti conferenze della storia e l’occasione per una generazione di condurre il mondo verso un sentiero di sviluppo sostenibile”.

L’attenzione mondiale è spostata sulla recessione globale, sul conflitto in Siria, sulle elezioni; nessuno è soddisfatto dei progressi sin qui fatti dai negoziati. E Brittany ha impostato il tono, aprendo il suo discorso.

“My name is Brittany Trilford. I am seventeen years old, a child. Today, in this moment, I am all children, your children, the world’s three billion children. Think of me for these short minutes as alf the world.

I stand here with fire in my heart. I’m confused and angry at the state of the world. We are here to solve the problems that we have caused as a collective, to ensure that we have a future.”

Ha dato ai Leader un ultimatum che ha risuonato attraverso tutti gli speaker che in seguito hanno parlato a nome della società civile.

“We, the next generation, demand change. We demand action so that we have a future and have it guaranteed. We trust that you will, in the next 72 hours, put our interests ahead of all other interests and boldly do the right thing.

You have 72 hours to decide the fate of your children, my children, my children’s children. And I start the clock now… tck tck tck.”
