CLIMATE AND VOLUNTARY OFFSETS: A COP21 ITALIAN SIDE EVENT
Blu Zone – Observer Room 2 – 12/3/2015 – 3 pm
As part of the COP21 in Paris Italian Climate Network, Carbon Sink, Ev-K2-CNR and Viraçao organize on December 3 a side event on “Voluntary offsets – environmental and social benefits of the FairCarbon proposal”.
The side event will be attended by Francesco La Camera, General Manager of the Italian Ministry of Environment; Andrea Maggiani, CEO of Carbon Sink; Pieter van Midwoud, Director of Partnerships and Business Development Gold Standard; Sophy Greenhalgh, Programme Director of ICROA; Stefania Proietti, Professor at the University G. Marconi and Member of the Committee of Ev-K2-CNR; Stefano Caserini, Professor at the Polytechnic of Milan; Federico Brocchieri, Projects Coordinator of Italian Climate Network and Veronica Caciagli, President of Italian Climate Network.
The event will focus on the potential of the market for voluntary carbon offsets in Italy, in order to assess the possible guidelines. The development of this market will be analyzed as a tool to introduce innovations and technologies to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable local development. Case studies will highlight the social impact of the FairCarbon projects and international collaborations.
“In the course of our event the FairCarbon principles will be deepened in order to grow in Italy a market that abroad offers great ethical investment opportunities and that makes the most of the role of international cooperation through the Italian innovative profit – non profit model Carbon Sink has created” says Andrea Maggiani, founding member and Director of Carbon Sink Group, co-promoter of the event.
“The mobilization of finance is an essential part of Climate negotiations: carbon projects will also mobilize resources for projects able to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but we need rigorous methods and scientific rigor in order to contribute to sustainable and equitable local development” adds Veronica Caciagli, President of Italian Climate Network.
